General Election Overview: 68th House District

Leading up to the November 5 general election, we are highlighting races generally considered swing seats.

District Overview: 

The district includes portions of Genesee and Oakland counties.

Commentary: 

Incumbent Republican Representative David Martin is serving his third term in the Michigan House and running for reelection this November in the 68th District, which has a slight Republican lean. This will be one of the most packed House races, with a libertarian and no-party-affiliation candidate joining the two major-party candidates on the ballot. Democratic candidate Matt Schlinker ran unsuccessfully in 2024 and is trying again this year to unseat Representative Martin, who has a strong incumbent track record representing this area in both the legislature and on the county commission. It will take a major effort to knock off this incumbent, but the opportunity is there.
