Legislation appropriating over $600 million in supplemental funding and adjustments for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 fiscal years moved forward this week.

Key Points:

    • $254.2 million in funding for the state’s share of 13 university and community college capital outlay projects.
    • Increased appropriations for the state psychiatric hospital and the state public health and environmental science laboratory project.
    • The bill also approved $114.1 million to pay off debt for several school districts throughout the state.
    • $30 million for the Highland Park, Great Lakes Water Authority, and State of Michigan legal settlement.
    • $6.5 million for 36 employees for the new Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP).

Next Steps:

    • The House and Senate voted to approve the supplemental appropriation bill. It will be sent to Governor Whitmer for consideration.
    • Once approved, this will allow the State Budget Office to close the books for the 2022-2023 Fiscal Year.
