New State Police Director Named

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Governor Whitmer selected Captain James F. Grady II to lead the Michigan State Police (MSP), which includes a promotion to the rank of colonel.

Key Points:

    • Captain Grady has more than 25 years of experience in public safety, including nearly a decade of leadership at MSP.
    • He currently manages the Training Division, which is responsible for conducting MSP recruit schools and in-service training for current members.
    • Captain Grady has a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice and criminology from Eastern Michigan University and is currently working toward a Master of Business Administration from Clearly University with expected completion in 2025.
    • The promotion took effect on September 28, 2023. He replaces Colonel Joe Gasper who is retiring.

The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
