Moving up one spot from last year, CNBC has ranked Michigan 9th in the nation for business. In order to rank each state, CNBC scored each state on 128 metrics, including infrastructure, quality of life, and cost of doing business. They weighed each category based on the frequency a state uses it in marketing tools.

In addition to the 9th place overall ranking, Michigan was ranked:

    • 3rd for cost of living, up from 7th last year.
    • 8th for business friendliness, up from 15th last year.
    • 9th for technology and innovation, up from 12th last year.

The top 10 states are:

    1. Virginia
    2. North Carolina
    3. Texas
    4. Georgia
    5. Florida
    6. Minnesota
    7. Ohio
    8. Tennessee
    9. Michigan
    10. Washington
