Governor on International Mission

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

This week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer traveled to Taiwan and South Korea for a five-day investment mission. During her trip, the governor announced the opening of the first Michigan Taiwan Office.

Key Points:

    • Governor Whitmer focused on securing investments in key industries such as automotive, semiconductors, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing.
    • The governor met with private companies and Taiwan authorities to discuss investment opportunities and partnerships in global industries.
    • She also visited the American Institute of Taiwan connecting with alumni groups from Michigan universities.
    • The delegation included Michigan Economic Development Corporation CEO Quentin Messer, Office of Future Mobility and Electrification chief mobility officer Justine Johnson, Oakland County Executive David Coulter, and officials from private businesses and unions, among other individuals.

State of Michigan Taiwan Office:

    • The Michigan Economic Development Corporation will administer the office.
    • It will focus on investment promotion and building ties between Michigan and Taiwan.
