  • Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin (D) and former Congressman Mike Rogers (R) will now face off for the open US Senate seat.  Longtime Senator Debbie Stabenow is retiring, leaving this seat open.  This will be one of the most competitive senate races in the country.
  • Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-Detroit) defeated his heavily endorsed primary opponent in the safe Democratic 13th Congressional District.
  • Current state Senator Kristin McDonald Rivet (D) and Paul Junge (R) are poised to face off in the 8th Congressional District seat.  Congressman Dan Kildee (D) is set to retire, leaving this seat open.
  • Of the 38 Michigan House incumbents that faced primary election challenges, 36 won their respective races.  However, Rep. Neil Friske (R-Charlevoix) and Rep. Bob Bezotte (R-Howell) lost their Republican primary contests and those seats will have new representation beginning in January.
  • All eyes are now on the November 5th general election, where nearly a dozen state House seats are in play to determine control of the chamber.  Democrats currently hold a slim 56-54 majority.
