Leading up to the November 5 general election, we are highlighting races generally considered swing seats.
District Overview:
The district includes Utica and portions of Sterling Heights, Warren, and Shelby Charter Township.
Commentary:
Republican Representative Ron Robinson is serving his first term in the House and is seeking a second term in November. This district has a nearly 50-50 partisan split, with the Republican Party having the slightest advantage at 50.3%. Representative Robinson has strong name recognition from serving in the House and on the local city council. His opponent is a political newcomer and will need to rely on campaigning and meeting the voters to get her name recognized. Representative Robinson has been a tireless worker in his district, but this race will be highly competitive based on the even partisan split among voters.
Democratic Candidate:
-
- Katrina Manetta – Community organizer, server.
Republican Candidate:
-
- Representative Ron Robinson – State representative, Marine Corps Veteran, former Utica City Councilman, small business owner.
