Primary Election Overview: 27th District

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Through the primary election on August 6, we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. The candidate’s website, professional information, and a sample of known endorsements are listed when available.

District Overview

The 27th House District is located in Wayne County, including Gibraltar, Riverview, Trenton, and Wyandotte, and portions of Southgate.

Commentary

This district is considered a toss-up and both parties have a shot at winning this November. Furthermore, the Republican party is targeting this district as a seat to flip. Representative Churches is running for a second term in office and without any primary opponents she will sail through to the general election this November. The Republican primary race has three candidates, including a local elected official and a state party official.
