This week, Governor Whitmer signed legislation implementing the voting reforms within Ballot Proposal 22-2. While the majority of Michigan voters approved the reforms during last year’s general election, it was up to the House and Senate to pass legislation implementing the changes.

The changes include:

    • Establishing a website for voters to track their absentee ballots.
    • Nine days of early voting for statewide and federal elections.
    • Requires prepaid postage for all absentee ballot applications and envelopes.
    • Expands the list of identification that can be used to include US passport, tribal photo ID card, military ID card, or student ID.
    • Disclosing an election result from an early voting site prior to election day a felony.
    • Requires at least one secure drop box for every 15,000 registered voters within a municipality.
    • A voter can fill out a single application to vote by mail and have a ballot mailed to them in all future elections.
    • Increases the maximum size of an election precinct from 2,999 active electors to 5,000.
