House Democratic members introduced legislation aiming to lift barriers that prevent individuals from voting and to encourage voter registration.

Key Points:

    • Removes the challenged ballot requirement, which makes a ballot challenged if an individual registers on Election Day, even if they have ID and proof of residency.
    • Lifts the current prohibition on paid rides to the polls.
    • Allows individuals to pre-register to vote at 16.
    • Codifies current policy allowing an elector to apply for an absent voter ballot online through the Secretary of State portal.

Next step:

The bills were referred to the House Elections Committee for consideration.
