Unemployment Rate Remains Steady

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Michigan’s July 2023 seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 3.6%. During the month, employment grew by 22,000 and unemployment rose by 1,000.

Key Points:

    • Michigan’s rate was one-tenth of a percentage point above the national rate.
    • The statewide labor force participation rate advanced by three-tenths of a percentage point from the prior month to 61%.
    • The Detroit-Warren-Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area’s unemployment rate increased by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3%.
    • The most pronounced over-the-year industry job gains were in state government and education and health services.
