Senator Sean McCann (D-Kalamazoo) serves as chair of the Energy and Environment Committee and vice chair of the Appropriations Committee, two highly influential committees.

Senator McCann is serving his second term in the Michigan Senate. He previously served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives and served for a decade as a Kalamazoo City Commissioner. Prior to public office, he was the executive director of the Vine Neighborhood Association. In the Senate, he also chairs the Appropriations Universities and Community Colleges Subcommittee and is a member of the Joint Capital Outlay Appropriations Subcommittee, the Transportation Subcommittee, and the Labor and Economic Opportunity/MEDC Subcommittee. Senator McCann also serves on the Finance, Insurance, and Consumer Protection Committee; the Regulatory Affairs Committees; and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.

He represents the 19th Senate District in West Michigan, which includes the City of Kalamazoo.
