Spotlight on Representative Abraham Aiyash

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Representative Abraham Aiyash (D-Hamtramck) is the Majority Floor Leader, responsible for running the floor operations when the chamber is in session. In his role, he creates the agenda for session days and works with the Speaker Pro Tem to call bills for a vote.

Representative Aiyash is serving his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives. He’s been active in politics for years, beginning his career working as a community organizer for President Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. Additionally, he worked for former Representative Rose Mary Robinson and as the statewide training and political leadership director at Michigan United. Representative Aiyash received his bachelor’s degree in political theory and constitutional democracy from Michigan State University.

He represents the 9th House District, in Wayne County.

      • Representative Aiyash – Hiking, competitive robotics, and everything consumer technology.
    • What did you want to be when you were a kid?
      • Representative Aiyash – A thoracic surgeon.
    • What’s your favorite game to play or sport to watch and/or play?
      • Representative Aiyash – College football, NBA, tennis (in that order!)
