This Tuesday, the two newly elected members of the Michigan House of Representatives were sworn into office. The House Democratic caucus has returned to its 56-54 majority in the chamber following the resignation of two former legislators last November after they won local mayoral elections.
Representative Mai Xiong (D-Warren) will serve the remaining term of the 13th House District, located in Wayne and Macomb Counties. Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit) appointed her to the following committees: Insurance; Military, Veterans, and Homeland Security; Education; Natural Resources, Environment, Tourism, and Outdoor Recreation.
“As a newly elected state representative, I’m honored to have the chance to serve the people of my community,” Representative Xiong said. “As a mother of four and a small-business owner, I understand the struggles that families and local businesses across our state are facing. People and communities are struggling to make ends meet. I will advocate for policies that will support the hard-working people of Michigan.”
Representative Peter Herzberg (D-Westland) will serve the remaining term of the 25th House District, which is located in Wayne County. Speaker Tate appointed him to the following committees: Transportation, Mobility, and Infrastructure; Health Policy Behavioral Health Subcommittee; Agriculture; Energy, Communications, and Technology.
“I am honored to serve as state representative of my hometown,” Representative Herzberg said. “I look forward to pursuing priorities that will propel our community forward. As we prepare next year’s budget, I will work to bring home investments that will have a lasting impact for folks in my district and for Michiganders across the state.”
