Primary Election Overview: 55th District

Through the primary election on August 6, we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. The candidate’s website, professional information, and a sample of known endorsements are listed when available.

District Overview

The 55th House District is located in Oakland County and includes Rochester and Rochester Hills.

Commentary

Representative Mark Tisdel is running for a third term in this Republican-leaning seat. While he doesn’t have an opponent in the primary race, two candidates are running in the Democratic primary, the winner of which he will face this November.

Democratic Candidates:

    • Trevis Harrold – U.S. Army veteran, U.S. Diplomat, worked in government affairs.
    • Alexander Hawkins – U.S. Army veteran, officer in the Michigan National Guard, reserve sheriff deputy.

Republican Candidate:

    • Representative Mark Tisdel – State representative, small business owner, former Rochester Hills Council president and vice president.
