Primary Election Overview: 36th District

Through the primary election on August 6, we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. The candidate’s website, professional information, and a sample of known endorsements are listed when available.

District Overview

The 36th House District is located in St. Joseph County and portions of Cass County.

Commentary

Representative Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers) is running for a third term in this safe Republican seat. He faces two candidates in the primary race, but whoever wins that is all but assured to win this November.

Democratic Candidate:

Republican Candidates:

    • Representative Steve Carra – State Representative, former legislative staffer, and research associate at the Acton Institute.
    • Michael Malmborg – Educator, small business operator.
    • Frank Perez – Army Veteran, worked in human resources and the insurance industry.
