Primary Election Overview: 25th District

Through the primary election on August 6, we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. The candidate’s website, professional information, and a sample of known endorsements are listed when available.

District Overview

The 25th House District is located in Wayne County, including Wayne and portions of Westland and Canton.

Commentary

This seat is considered safe for the Democratic party, making that primary race key to who will represent this seat next year. Representative Herzberg is running for his first full term in office, after winning a special general election in April to fill the remaining term, ending December 31, 2024. He will face a number of opponents in the Democratic primary race this August.

Democratic Candidates:

    • Representative Peter Herzberg – State Representative, former Westland City Councilman.
    • Melandie Hines – Community activist, Wayne Westland Board of Education Trustee.

    • Lekisha Maxwell
    • Layla Taha – Program director for Congresswoman Tlaib, former health policy analyst.
