Legislation prohibiting legislators from entering into nondisclosure agreements was passed by the House of Representatives this week.

Key Points:

    • House Bills 4052 and 4053 were introduced by Representative Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers) and Representative Dylan Wegela (D-Garden City).
    • Under the proposal, a member of the legislature would be prohibited from entering into a nondisclosure agreement regarding work within their capacity as a legislator.
    • Any nondisclosures entered into with a member of the legislature would be considered void.
    • On the effective date of the bill, these provisions would apply to new, amended, extended, or renewed nondisclosure agreements.

Next Steps:

    • The bills were referred to the Senate Government Operations Committee for consideration.
