Department Leadership Changes Announced

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced changes in leadership at the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB) and the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA).

DTMB:

    • Kyle Guerrant, current deputy state budget director, will serve as acting director of the department.
    • Prior to his work with the State Budget Office, he served as deputy superintendent of finance and operations at the Michigan Department of Education and as Michigan’s interim state school reform officer in 2018.
    • Guerrant was also director of the Office of School Support Services at the department and acting manager of the Safe and Drug-Free Schools Program at the Michigan Department of Community Health.
    • He holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology, with a focus on child development, from Long Island University, and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Michigan. He also completed Michigan State University’s Educational Policy Fellowship Program.
    • Current director Michelle Lange is resigning effective January 31, 2026.

MVAA:

    • Terry Sabo was named director of the agency.
    • He currently serves as deputy director at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs and is a member of the Muskegon County Veterans Advisory Board.
    • Sabo previously served three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2017 to 2022, was a Muskegon County Commissioner for two terms, and a Muskegon County Road Commissioner for two years.
    • Prior to his work with the state, he was a police officer and firefighter for 25 years.
    • Sabo attended the Community College of the Air Force and received a now-MCOLES state certification as a police officer from Delta Community College.
    • He’s also an Air Force Veteran.
    • Current director Brian Love is resigning effective January 31, 2026.
