Chief Science Officer Named

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Director Tim Boring announced the selection of Dr. Laura Johnson as the department’s Chief Science Officer within the newly created Office of Agricultural Science and Research.

Dr. Johnson:

    • She previously served as Director for the National Center for Water Quality Research at Heidelberg University in Ohio.
    • At the university, she led efforts to expand water quality monitoring, partnered with stakeholder organizations, authored over 35 peer-reviewed scientific articles, and maintained a robust publicly available dataset.
    • She completed her postdoctoral research at Indiana University and obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and B.S. from Virginia Tech.

She began her new role on October 30.
