In a reversal of an earlier legal ruling, the Michigan Supreme Court ordered that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. won’t be removed from Michigan’s general election ballot, as he requested.

Key Points:

    • Kennedy was running for president under the Natural Party, before withdrawing from the race in August.
    • After withdrawing, he announced his support for former President Trump and requested to be removed from the ballot, concerned it would take away votes from Trump.
    • Citing state law, the Bureau of Elections denied his request.
    • Kennedy challenged the decision in the Court of Claims, which denied his request. That was appealed to the Michigan Court of Appeals, which held he should be removed from the ballot.
    • This week, the final state appeal was considered by the Michigan Supreme Court, giving immediate consideration and ordered that Mr. Kennedy would be placed on the ballot.

Next Steps:

    • Kennedy has appealed t to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan.
