Commentary

Longtime Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow is set to retire at the end of her term this year, leaving this seat open for the first time since 2000. While a Democratic member has held the seat for decades, it’s considered wide open this election cycle. This is one of the country’s most closely watched races, as the Democratic Party works to retain the majority, and the Republicans work to flip the chamber.

While Congresswoman Slotkin is newer to serving in public office, she’s made a strong name for herself. Additionally, she has some bipartisan credits to her name, having worked for presidents on both sides of the aisle. She also brings national security experience, having served three tours in Afghanistan alongside the U.S. Military during her time at the CIA.

Mike Rogers is a well-known name in Michigan politics. He served in the Michigan Senate before his election to Congress, where he served for 14 years. During a portion of his time in Congress, he served as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee.
