Governor Signs State Budget

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

This week, Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed the $82.5 billion state budget for the upcoming fiscal year, beginning on October 1. The budget provides funding for state departments and agencies, in addition to the legislature and the executive office.

The budget includes:

    • A $50 million deposit into the budget stabilization fund.
    • A $20 million deposit into the Disaster and Emergency Contingency fund.
    • $2.5 million for the Economic and Worker Transition Office.
    • $100 million to construct more affordable housing.
    • $500 million in the Strategic Outreach Attraction Reserve fund.
    • $75 million in new Revenue Sharing funds for cities, villages, townships, and counties.
    • $509.4 million for water infrastructure improvements.
    • $74.5 million in funding for local roads and bridges.
    • $247.6 million of new funding to improve state and local roads, highways, and bridges.
    • $75 million to establish a Public Safety Trust Fund to provide local governments additional resources for police services and support community violence intervention efforts.
    • $161.5 million to establish new Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics statewide.
    • $18.5 million to implement recommendations of the Racial Disparities Taskforce.
