Primary Election Overview: 10th House District

Through the primary election on August 6, we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. The candidate’s website, professional information, and a sample of known endorsements are listed when available. 

District Overview

The 10th House District is located in Wayne County. This is one of the districts the Michigan Supreme Court ordered to be redrawn earlier this year after finding the 2021 map was racially gerrymandered.

Commentary

Representative Veronica Paiz is serving her first term in the House and running for reelection in a newly drawn district. The seat is considered a safe Democratic seat due to its base, and the primary winner is expected to win in November.

Democratic Candidates:

    • Justin Counts
    • Representative Veronica Paiz – State Representative, former Harper Woods City Councilwoman, community arts coordinator, and executive director of Casa de Unidad.
      • Endorsements – AFSCME, Michigan League of Conservation Voters, Michigan Nurses Association.
