Senator Sarah Anthony (D-Lansing) made history when she was named the first African American woman to serve as Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee. While in the House, Senator Anthony was elected by her peers to serve as the Democratic Caucus Chair. Prior to her service in the legislature, Senator Anthony served on the Ingham County Board of Commissioners. She previously worked as the Deputy and Interim Executive Director of the Michigan College Access Network. Senator Anthony has a bachelor’s degree from Central Michigan University and a master’s degree from Western Michigan University.
She represents the 21st Senate District in mid-Michigan. The district includes portions of Eaton and Ingham Counties.
