New Year Goals, Not Resolutions, for 2024

Over the past few weeks, I’ve heard many people proclaim “It’s gonna be a great year!” I find that refreshing since the past few years have been a bit more of a struggle for many. With so much positivity in the air, I’m really looking forward to 2024.

As the year kicks off, however, I purposely steered away from creating a New Year’s resolution as in the past when I’ve tried to make them but failed. Instead, I decided to set a few personal and professional goals.

First, golf more. Spending time outdoors is where I belong. While this is more of a personal goal, it does blend nicely with my professional life.

Second, mentor more. With thirty-one years of experience in and around state government and lobbying, I have a lot to share with those who are inquisitive, especially the next generation.  This is one of my favorite things to do and I’m excited to do more this year.

Third, reconnect old relationships that were once strong, but where time has gotten away.  While social media makes it feel that we’re keeping in touch, it’s not the same as a phone call or getting together. Therefore, I created an “intentional list” of people I want to reconnect with, broken into a few buckets of those that I’ve lost touch with:

    • High school and college friends;
    • Former colleagues;
    • My former mentors who have since retired;
    • People that I feel our paths need to cross again.

The year is off to a great start! I’ve reconnected with a few college friends and former colleagues, and the mentoring has begun. It sure has made the early weeks of 2024 exciting!  But the big question is, “When can I start playing golf?”

I hope you exceed all your goals this year!  Happy 2024!
