Upon reaching the 100-day benchmark of her second term in office, Governor Gretchen Whitmer is emphasizing several items her administration has completed. Historically, governors will use this benchmark to highlight what they’ve accomplished thus far and speak to what goals they will work towards next.

The items the governor chose to highlight include:

  • Rolling back the retirement tax and increasing the Working Families Tax Credit
  • Signing legislation expanding the Elliot-Larsen Civil Rights Act
  • Passing background checks for gun purchases, safe storage laws, and extreme risk protection orders
  • Repealing the 1931 abortion ban
  • Signing legislation establishing the Community Violence Intervention initiative

Looking forward, Governor Whitmer is proposing additional policy initiatives such as providing free pre-K for all 4-year-olds, expanding MI Kids Back on Track with tutoring and after-school programs, and dedicated resources to hire, train, and retain local police, firefighters, and EMTs.
