The Race for the Open U.S. Senate Seat

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Following the retirement announcement of longtime Senator Debbie Stabenow (D), several well-known candidates entered the race. This race quickly became one of the most-watched nationwide and has seen massive amounts of campaign spending as both parties are trying to win this seat on their path to holding a majority.

Candidates:

    • Democratic Party – Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin
      • She’s currently serving her third term in the United States House of Representatives. Prior to public office, she worked for the CIA as a Middle East analyst and served as national security staff under both President George W. Bush and President Barack Obama.
    • Republican Party – Mike Rogers
      • He’s an Army Veteran and former member of the United States House of Representatives. Additionally, he served in the Michigan Senate and is a business owner.
    • Libertarian Party – Joseph Solis-Mullen
      • He is a political scientist, economist, and Ralph Raico Fellow at the Libertarian Institute and he teaches history at Spring Arbor University.
    • US Taxpayers Party – Dave Stein
      • He is a community journalist.
    • Green Party – Douglas Marsh
    • Natural Law Party – Doug Dern
      • He is an attorney.
