Spotlight On Senator Rosemary Bayer

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Senator Bayer (D-Keego Harbor) is serving her second term in the Michigan Senate.

Biography 

Prior to her election to the Senate, she worked in information technology, first as a computer engineer and analyst who found and invented products to solve complex challenges in business. In addition to her role in the legislature, Senator Bayer serves on the board of directors for NEW, Solutions for Nonprofits and the SheHive, a women’s collective offering programs to empower women. She also cofounded the Michigan Council of Women in Technology, a nonprofit providing STEM support for girls and women.

District

Senator Bayer represents the 13th Senate District, which includes parts of Commerce Twp., Farmington Hills, Novi Twp., and all of Keego Harbor, Northville, Northville Twp., Novi, Orchard Lake Village, Plymouth, Plymouth Twp., Sylvan Lake, Walled Lake, and West Bloomfield Twp.

    • What’s your favorite travel destination outside of Michigan?
      • A – Moscow, ID, where my daughter lives!
    • What’s your favorite hobby other than politics?
      • A – Cooking – I am something of a chef! It runs in my foodie family, and we are competitive!
    • What did you want to be when you were a kid?
      • A – A scientist. I dropped out of college briefly in my senior year – realizing that I actually hated chemistry! So, I ended up a Computer Scientist, with majors in CS, Math, and Chemistry. Perfect for politics! Haha!
    • What’s your favorite game to play or sport to watch and/or play?
      • A – I played softball in school (Captain!), and while I also played volleyball (Captain again) and basketball, those were mostly for the exercise – baseball is social and fun!
