The 13th House District in southeast Michigan was left vacant after the resignation of former Representative Lori Stone, following her election to local office this past November. Next Tuesday, voters in this seat will cast their ballots for candidates in the special primary races.

The district is located in Wayne and Macomb Counties, including portions of Warren and Detroit. The seat has a 68% Democratic base, and the winner of the Democratic primary race is expected to win in the special general election on April 16.

In the Democratic primary, candidate Mai Xiong has received a number of key endorsements, including Governor Whitmer, Senator Stephanie Chang, Warren Mayor Lori Stone, Representative Jimmie Wilson, and numerous organizations.

Democratic candidates:

    • LaMar Lemmons – Political consultant and a former representative, having last served in the House during the 2005 – 2006 term.
    • Suzanne Ostosh – Works at Harvest Time Christian Fellowship.
    • Mai Xiong – Macomb County Commissioner

Republican candidates:

    • Brandon Cumbee – Warren Police Officer.
    • Curtiss Ostosh – Harvest Time Christian Fellowship Pastor.
    • Ronald Singer – Works in vehicle equipment manufacturing.
