This Tuesday, a special general election will be held in the 25th House district in southeast Michigan. The seat was left vacant following the resignation of former Representative Kevin Coleman, who was elected Mayor of Westland last November.
Candidates:
-
- Democratic candidate – Peter Herzberg
- Westland City Councilman, project finance specialist.
- Republican candidate – Josh Powell
- Army Veteran, product development program manager.
- US Taxpayers candidate – Robert Stano
- Democratic candidate – Peter Herzberg
-
- The district is located in Wayne County and includes the city of Wayne and portions of Westland and Canton.
- The district has a 62% Democratic base and the party’s candidate is expected to win.
This election is especially important as the House now has a 54-54 split majority following this resignation, as well as a resignation in the 13th House District. While Speaker Joe Tate (D-Detroit) retained his leadership of the chamber, to pass legislation either party would need at least one vote from the other party as 55 affirmative votes are needed.
We will post the results of both special general elections on the MLC Blog on Wednesday, April 17.
