Legislation allowing the electronic transfer of titles or interest in vehicles heard testimony this week in the Senate Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson testified in support of the proposal.

Key Points:

    • SB 533 was introduced by Senator Erika Geiss (D-Taylor).
    • It permits the Department of State to establish a secure electronic system to bring private sellers and buyers together online to conduct their transactions.
    • Allows the department to issue buyers an electronic title instead of a paper one.

Next Steps:

    • The bill remains before the committee awaiting further consideration.
