At the end of the last legislative term, nine of the bills that passed the House and Senate weren’t presented to Governor Gretchen Whitmer for her consideration. Over the past month, there has been ongoing tension between the parties over these bills, which remain in limbo. However, this week, the Senate passed a resolution regarding this issue.
Senate Resolution 3:
-
- It was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids).
- It authorizes the Senate Majority Leader to start legal action to compel the Michigan House to present the bills to the governor.
- The resolution was adopted on a voice vote.
- Following session, Senate Republican Leader Aric Nesbitt (R-Lawton) stated opposition to the resolution.
House Speaker Matt Hall (R-Kalamazoo) has previously said he won’t present the bills until a legal review has been completed.
