Newly Appointed Tribal Council Member Sworn In

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) issued the oath of office to newly appointed Tribal Council Member Robyn Burlingham-Elkins.

Key Points:

    • The appointment fills the vacant Tribal Council Treasurer seat.
    • She was sworn in to serve the remainder of the four-year term, which expires in April 2025.
    • Burlingham-Elkins will graduate in May 2024 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from Arizona State University. She earned an Associate of Arts in Business from Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
    • She’s worked within the Tribal Council office for the past ten years, serving as the Tribal Council/FireKeepers Development Authority Coordinator.
    • In addition, she will serve as Chair of the Indigenous Rights Committee, the Tribal Environmental Advisory Committee, and the FireKeepers Development Authority Audit Committee.

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi:

    • The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi has been a federally recognized Tribal government since 1995 and currently has more than 1,500 enrolled Tribal members.
    • The Tribe’s main offices are located at the Pine Creek Indian Reservation near Athens, MI, and in Grand Rapids, MI.
    • NHBP’s economic development entities include FireKeepers Casino Hotel and Waséyabek Development Company, LLC.
