In this world of constant communication, finding the time or focus for certain activities, particularly reading or listening to a podcast, is sometimes difficult. When it comes to news and information, consider looking at a variety of sources. When I’ve had the chance to speak with college students, I always stress this as they move through the sea of information they swim in.
My communication hub and source of news and entertainment is my car. This is where I follow a variety of sources for news, entertainment, and sports. Being a lobbyist means that I must understand all sides of an issue and be open to a variety of resources. So, what do I mean by my car being my information hub?
If you were to look at my programmed favorites, you would notice I enjoy music and sports. I listen to mostly rock because I am a child of the 80s and you will also find jazz and classic rock. Plus, I can never get enough sports, so I make sure I have at least three stations dedicated to it.
Equally important to me are the news channels I listen to, picked based on their diversity. Because today’s news channels are more targeted than in the past, I have chosen to listen to content from both sides of the aisle, along with business news. The business news is my sanctuary because it’s just the numbers!
I also listen to a couple of overseas channels, which allow me to hear a perspective from outside the States. These channels include CBC out of Canada and the BBC out of England. It’s interesting to hear how they view the United States, and while I may not always agree, it is informative. As I stated earlier, listen to what you enjoy, but sometimes take a chance on something that is not your style, you might find a nugget of information that is helpful.
