Meet the DTMB Leader

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Michelle Lange serves as the director of the Department of Technology, Management, and Budget (DTMB). In December 2022, Governor Whitmer moved her from the role of acting director to director of the department.

Director Lange:

    • She’s held several roles at DTMB including, acting director, chief deputy director, director of executive direction and operations, chief of staff, and legislative liaison.
    • Previously, she worked for Governor Whitmer under the chief operating office and was the deputy director of legislative affairs for Governor Rick Snyder.
    • Lange also served as a judge on the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
    • Prior to her work in the executive branch, she spent 12 years as a staff member in the Michigan Senate.
    • She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University.

DTMB:

    • The department operates with an annual budget of $1.4 billion and has more than 2,8000 staff.
    • It supports the business operations of state agencies through services such as building management, information technology, centralized contracting and procurement, motor vehicle fleet, oversight of the state retirement systems, and more.
