As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Over the past week, we covered these topics on the MLC Blog…

Governor Whitmer signed the state budget for the 2025-2026 Fiscal Year, including $29.8 billion to continue core Medicaid services, $1.8 billion to continue support for community and behavioral health programs, and $1.6 billion in revenue sharing for cities, villages, townships, and counties.

Governor Whitmer signed legislation creating a 24% wholesale tax on marijuana. This was part of the overall budget negotiations this year and accounts for a portion of additional funding for roads and bridges.

The Michigan Republican Party will host a series of three debates for candidates in the Republican primary race for governor.

From building wind turbines to building a stronger future for Ypsilanti, Representative Jimmie Wilson’s career is grounded in hard work and community service.

In our weekly “Five Things We’re Reading” feature we shared articles on the five safest countries, the legacy of Dr. Jane Goodall, and more.

A look at events during the week of October 11 – 17, 2025.
