Legislation making reforms to Michigan’s workers comp system was reported by the Senate Labor Committee this week.

Key Points:

    • Senate Bills 1079 and 1080 were introduced by Senators John Cherry (D-St. Clair Shores) and Mary Cavanagh (D-Redford).
    • Under the proposal, the weekly rate for disability compensation would increase from 90% to 100%.
    • An employer would be required to pay a dependent spouse of an employee who died 80% of their wages for 500 weeks.
    • It also makes changes to the standards of determining eligibility for personal injury.

Next Steps:

    • The bills were referred to the Senate floor for consideration.
