Governor Appoints Department Director

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Scott Bowen will serve as the director of the Department of Natural Resources following his appointment this week.

Biography:

    • Prior to the appointment, he was senior vice president of Business Development for a Michigan-based technology company.
    • Served as the Michigan Lottery Commissioner from January 2008 to February 2017.
    • Former director of the Office of the State Employer.
    • Served two terms on the Grand Rapids City Commission.
    • Former Judge of the 62-A District Court in Wyoming, MI.
    • Worked as a city attorney for multiple West Michigan cities and special assistant attorney general for the Department of Transportation.
    • He holds a Bachelor of Art in history from Michigan State University and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit.

Department of Natural Resources:

    • The department oversees the conservation, protection, management, use, and enjoyment of the state’s natural and cultural resources.

The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
