Biography:

- Prior to the appointment, he was senior vice president of Business Development for a Michigan-based technology company.
- Served as the Michigan Lottery Commissioner from January 2008 to February 2017.
- Former director of the Office of the State Employer.
- Served two terms on the Grand Rapids City Commission.
- Former Judge of the 62-A District Court in Wyoming, MI.
- Worked as a city attorney for multiple West Michigan cities and special assistant attorney general for the Department of Transportation.
- He holds a Bachelor of Art in history from Michigan State University and received his Juris Doctor from the University of Detroit.

- The department oversees the conservation, protection, management, use, and enjoyment of the state’s natural and cultural resources.
The appointment is subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
