General Election Overview: 86th District

Through the general election on November 5, we will highlight races generally considered swing seats. The candidate’s website and professional information are listed when available.

District Overview

The 86th House District is in Allegan and Ottawa counties, including the City of Holland.

Commentary

Representative Nancy DeBoer is running for a second term in office this November. While she has years of experience in elected office, this is a Republican-leaning district, thus, her reelection isn’t guaranteed.

Democratic Candidate:

    • Abby Klomparens – Former legislative aide in the Michigan House of Representatives, and West Michigan Regional Coordinator for U.S. Senator Gary Peters.

Republican Candidate:

    • Representative Nancy DeBoer – State Representative, former Holland Mayor, Holland City Council member, high school teacher, and radio host.
