Department Announces Staff Changes

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

The Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced staff changes in the department’s executive office.

Chief Climate and Energy Strategist:

    • Kara Cook has been named to the position, where she will oversee statewide efforts to grow climate and energy activity in Michigan.
    • Most recently, Ms. Cook served as chief of staff at EGLE and senior advisor to Governor Whitmer on energy and environment protection.
    • Prior to joining the Whitmer-Gilchrist administration, she worked in government affairs at the Michigan League of Conservation Voters.
    • Cook graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Chief of Staff, EGLE:

    • Doug Messana will replace Ms. Cook in this position.
    • He was formerly director of federal affairs for Wayne State University.
    • Additionally, Mr. Messana has served in senior government relations and policy roles for Ford Motor Company, the City of Detroit, and U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.
    • He has a bachelor’s degree in public affairs from Wayne State University and a master’s degree in legislative affairs from George Washington University.
