Bipartisan legislation reforming upcoming changes to Michigan’s paid sick leave laws and minimum wage was introduced. Unless the legislature takes action, changes to both are set to take effect on February 20, 2025, including increases to the hourly wage and the hourly tipped wage and mandatory paid sick leave for employees.

Proposed Changes:

    • HB 6056 and 6057 were introduced by Representative Nate Shannon (D-Sterling Heights) and Representative Graham Filler (R-St. Johns).
    • Adjusts the rate of increase to the minimum wage, increasing it to $12 in 2025, $12.50 in 2026, $13 in 2027, $14 in 2028, and $15 in 2029.
    • Preserves the tipped wage structure of 38% of the standard minimum wage.
    • It also makes changes to the structure and requirements of paid sick leave.

Next Steps:

    • The bills were referred to the House Regulatory Reform Committee for consideration.
