An icon of Michigan’s government and political scene, he was our friend and the friend of many around the Capitol over the years. He spent decades working in and around state government, starting as deputy state treasurer for six years. After Michigan adopted a new constitution in 1963, he decided it was time for a new role in politics, and MLC was born.
In 1965, Tom opened the first multi-client lobbying firm in Lansing, Michigan Legislative Consultants. He started the firm with one client and continued to grow the firm throughout his thirty years as president. Some of those first clients continue to be represented by MLC to this day, a testament to the strong organization he built. Without the solid foundation Tom built, MLC wouldn’t be what it is today. We are all privileged to stand on his shoulders and benefit from what he founded over 60 years ago.
“When I started in Lansing in 1993, Tom was one of the first lobbyists I met. He helped educate me on the importance of good government and ethical lobbying. In 2004, I was proud to join such a reputable firm, started by a principled man.”
