New UIA Director Begins Role

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Jason Palmer began his role as director of the Michigan Unemployment Agency (UIA), succeeding Julia Dale who resigned in January.

Jason Palmer:

    • He most recently served as the Assistant Commissioner at the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Regional Commissioner for the Chicago Region.
    • Prior to that, he was the director of Michigan’s Bureau of Labor Market Information and Strategic Initiatives.
    • Palmer has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Michigan State University, a master’s degree in Labor and Industrial Relations from Wayne State University, and a doctorate in Sociology from MSU. He received his Juris Doctorate from the MSU College of Law.

UIA:

    • The agency administers the unemployment insurance program, which provides temporary financial assistance to individuals.
    • Benefits are paid through taxes on employers covered under the Michigan Employment Security Act.
