Last weekend, the Michigan Democratic and Republican Parties held conventions to select their candidates for the Michigan Supreme Court. Two seats on the bench are up for election this November.

Justice of the Supreme Court, full 8-year term:

    • The Democratic Party selected Kimberly Thomas – She is a professor at the University of Michigan School of Law, an appellate attorney, and Fulbright Scholar award recipient.
    • The Republican Party selected Representative Andrew Fink – He is serving his second term in the Michigan House of Representatives, an attorney, and a Marine Corps Veteran.

Justice of the Supreme Court, partial term ending January 1, 2029: Justice Harris Bolden was appointed by Governor Whitmer to fill the vacancy created when former Justice Bridget Mary McCormack retired.

    • The Democratic Party selected Justice Kyra Harris Bolden – She served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives and previously worked as a criminal defense and civil litigation attorney.
    • The Republican Party selected Judge Patrick O’Grady – He has served on the 15th Circuit Court bench since he was first elected in 2008, is a former member of the Michigan State Police, and is a U.S. Army Veteran.
