Primary Election Overview: 35th District

Through the primary election on August 6, we will highlight races for which the primary is the key race due to the voter base. The candidate’s website, professional information, and a sample of known endorsements are listed when available. 

District Overview

The 35th House District is located in Branch and Hillsdale Counties and a portion of Lenawee County.

Commentary

Representative Andrew Fink (R-Hillsdale) isn’t running for reelection, leaving this seat open. The district is considered safe for the Republican Party, making that primary race the important race to watch for this district.

Democratic Candidate:

Republican Candidates:

    • Tom Matthew -Business leader, Branch County Commissioner
      • Endorsements – Branch County Commissioner Alan McClellan, Delta County Commissioner Steven Viau, Berrien County Commissioner Julie Wuerfel.
    • Adam Stockford – Hillsdale Mayor, businessman, former champion boxer.
      • Endorsements – Hillsdale College President Dr. Larry Arnn, Representative Jim DeSana, Senator Jim Runestad.
    • Jennifer Wortz – High school teacher, a partner in a family-owned agricultural business.
