Governor Makes Judicial Appointments

As MLC’s Communications and Social Media Manager, Liz Gullett keeps clients informed and up-to-date on the goings on in Lansing and the Capitol.

Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced two circuit court judicial appointments following the resignations of Judge Elwood L. Brown in the 31st Circuit Court and Judge Michael P. Hatty in the 44th Circuit Court.

31st Circuit Court, Probate – St. Clair County

    • Jennifer Smith Deegan­ will serve a partial term commencing on April 8 and expiring on January 1, 2025.
    • She is a senior assistant prosecuting attorney in the St. Clair County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. She’s worked in various roles in this office since 1999.
    • Smith Deegan clerked for three different circuit court judges in the 31st Circuit Court and was a staff attorney for Consolidated Legal Services in Southfield.
    • She received her Bachelor of Arts in International Business and French from Alma College and her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University School of Law.

44th Circuit Court – Livingston County

    • Susan Longsworth has been appointed to a partial term commencing on April 8 and expiring on January 1, 2025.
    • She is a solo practitioner in Howell focusing primarily on criminal defense. Previously, she was as assistant prosecuting attorney in the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office.
    • Longsworth clerked for the 43rd Circuit Court.
    • She received her Bachelor of Arts in EnglishLiterature and Spanish Language and Literature from Marquette University and her Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.
