Unemployment Rate Declines

In February, Michigan’s seasonally adjusted jobless rate decreased by one-tenth of a percentage point to 3.9%. During the month, employment edged up by 2,000, while unemployment was reduced by 4,000.

Key Points:

    • Last month’s rate is one-tenth of a percentage point higher than the February 2023 rate.
    • The Detroit-Warren-Dearborn Metropolitan Statistical Area’s seasonally adjusted rate also declined by one-tenth of a percentage point in February to 3.8%.
    • The most pronounced over-the-month employment gains occurred in the state’s private education, health services, and government sectors.
    • Employment in the construction sector edged up for the fourth consecutive month and on a percentage basis has observed the largest over-the-year industry employment gain of 3.8%.
    • The national jobless rate advanced by two-tenths of a percent to 3.9% during the same period.
