House and Senate Appropriations Committees have reported the remaining budget bills for the upcoming fiscal year.

Key points:

Among several key items, is funding for the Department of State to implement the voting reforms within Proposal 2 and a $100 million regional transit investment.

In the Senate, six Republicans will need to vote favorably for immediate effect for the budgets. At this time there are some indications they aren’t 100% on board to do that. That could be problematic since the budget wouldn’t take effect until spring 2023 without immediate effect.

Next steps:

  • The House and Senate are expected to vote on the budgets next week.
  • The Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference will meet later this month to finalize agreed-upon revenue projections for the coming fiscal year.
  • Conference Committees will be named and will meet to work out items of differences between the two chambers.
  • The legislature will continue to negotiate with the administration.
  • The new fiscal year begins on October 1, 2023.
